7th grade students at Unidos Middle School wrote letters to President Barack Obama. The class recived a responded from the White House with an inspiring letter from the president. Product: Typed and formatted letters sent to a civil leader. Process: Students were introduced to writing professional business letters using Microsoft Word. Students were guided through the formatting of business letters in block letter format and addressing envelopes. Content: The use of word processing software is widespread and is necessary for most 21st century jobs. Students were given the experience of writing a formal letter to a civil leader and were allowed to voice their own concerns appropriately. Both 6 and 7th grade students were surprised at the diversity of careers in Business Computer Science. Careers ranging from Ski Resort Manager to Insurance Agent, to Bed and Breakfast Owner and Librarian were all reported on. Students critiqued each others presentation by commenting on success and suggested improvements.
7th grade students at Unidos Middle School were guided through using Excel to create their own made up business inventory. Students made up a list of items for sale with price of production, sale price, and number of items sold. Students then used formulas in Excel to calculate the total profit per item, total profit of items sold, and then generated bar graphs from the data. 6th grade students at Unidos Middle School had a blast using Microsoft Excel to collect data and generate pie-charts. Students thought of a question with possible choices to pole the class. Students created a chart in excel that listed each member of the class and the possible answers to their poled question. Data was collected from each person in class. Students used the Auto-Sum feature to add up the number of votes and then generated pie charts from the data. |
