These 1 point perspective cities came out great. Students measured every inch along the edges of a square paper and measured to find the center of the paper. They drew straight lines with rulers from the marks along the edges to the center and used theses lines as sides to their buildings. I showed them a variety of different ways to draw top to their buildings and windows including how to make the windows look smaller as they get higher.
Students used rulers to draw a horizon line halfway through their paper and found the center of the horizon line to mark a vanishing point. Then they traced shapes and used rulers to draw lines from the corners of the shapes to vanishing point. I had different classes complete these in colored pencil, watercolor pencil, and opaque watercolor paint. The completed colored pencil drawings came out a little better in general because the paint and watercolor pencil are difficult to control in small such areas.
