Students drew organic shapes on construction paper then cut out the shapes. The cutout organic shapes are glued to another piece of construction paper and then students consecutively bubble cut and layer the shape creating boarders of different colors around their original organic shapes. This project was designed specifically to challenge and improve students skill in cutting along irregular / organic lines. This was first grade's introduction to geometric shapes. stencils were used to trace the shapes and rulers were used to draw straight lines. This project was designed to improve students ability to trace through paper as well as draw straight lines with a ruler. I photocopied a variety of hand drawn facial features which were available to students to trace while they were drawing their portraits. Rulers were used to draw 10 straight, diagonal lines from edge to edge of the paper. Warm and cool chunk crayons were used along with rubbing plates to create areas of textures with warm and cool colors. Geometric shapes were traced and cutout of additional paper with the same warm and cool colored areas of textures. Students were introduced to the principal of contrast and challenged to create contrast by putting warm colored shapes over/next to cool colors and cool colors over/next to warm colors. Second grade students created these imaginative monster collages by combining geometric shapes cutout from construction paper with added textures. Textures were created on construction paper by rubbing crayons over paper held over texture plates. Finalized details were added with collage tape. Kindergarten students learned the order of the rainbow by creating these collages using all of the colors of the rainbow in the correct order starting with red in the center. To rip colored paper students are taught to fold the paper and pinch it to make a fold and then to rip on the fold. Kindergarden students created pattern by coloring sections of pumpkins with light and dark orange. Once the pumpkins were completely colored, students added torn black paper to turn their pumpkin into jack o'lanterns. |
